Intel Alert emergency notification service · Last updated: October 27, 2026
The service
Intel Alert is an emergency notification service operated by Intellasoft (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) on behalf of participating towns and municipalities. When you sign up on your town's website, your town can send you official emergency alerts, updates to those alerts and public notices by text message, voice call and/or email, depending on what you choose.
Signing up
- You sign up on your town's official website. By entering your mobile number and pressing Complete Registration, you agree to receive emergency alerts and public notices from your town by text message.
- Your number is confirmed with a one-time code before any alerts are sent. Signups that are never confirmed are deleted after 24 hours.
- Only Canadian phone numbers can be registered. You must be the account holder of the number, or have their permission to register it.
- If you add a Guardian (a family member or friend who gets copies of your emergency alerts), you must have their permission. They will be told by text that you added them, and they can reply STOP at any time.
What you will receive
- Emergency alerts and updates (for example severe weather, boil water orders, road closures, evacuations, fires and missing persons) and occasional public notices from your town.
- A verification code when you sign up and a welcome message once you are confirmed.
- During some emergencies, a request to reply SAFE so the town knows you are safe.
Message frequency varies with events in your town: usually a few messages a month, and more during an active emergency. Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile plan. Intel Alert does not charge residents for alerts.
Stopping and restarting text messages
- Reply STOP to any alert text to stop receiving text messages from your town. (CANCEL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE and STOPALL also work.)
- After you opt out you will no longer receive emergency alerts by text, so please consider another way of staying informed.
- Reply START to receive text messages again.
- Voice calls and emails can be changed through “Manage My Alerts” on your town's alert page or by contacting your town office. Every alert email has an unsubscribe link.
Help
Reply HELP to any alert text for help, or contact your town office or us (details below).
Important limits
- Intel Alert does not replace 911. In an emergency where life or property is in danger, call 911.
- Messages are delivered through mobile carriers, telephone networks and email providers. Delivery can be delayed or fail because of network conditions, power or service outages, your phone being off or out of coverage, or other things outside our control. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Please also follow other official sources (your town, local radio, Environment Canada and provincial alerts) during an emergency.
Your privacy
How we collect, use and protect your information is explained in our Privacy Policy. We never sell or share your mobile number for marketing.
Changes
We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
